Many parents ask themselves when do kids learn to read? And when should I start teaching my children to read?
The age kids learn to read
Most children start to learn how to read when they’re around the age of 4 to 5 years old. At this point children begin to develop reading skills. Meaning they start to learn pronouncing their first words and develop a vocabulary.
Later on in the next phase (age 6 to 10) kids start to read simple books, understand that letters represent sounds and eventually learn to read individually.
Around the age 11 -13 children read about things they’re interested in (like hobbies). At this point they understand more fully what they are reading about (reading comprehension) and are able to use their reading skills to study for school.
